Your 2027 is taking shape now, in conversations you're not part of.

Whenever your review falls, the groundwork is laid long before it. Right now, firms are setting next year's budgets, headcount, talent lists and succession plans. The women who are named in those conversations are usually the ones who made sure someone could speak for them.

Just completed The Unwritten Rules Survey? Thank you. Your answers are shaping the agenda. Save your seat below and hear them answered live.

The rules nobody writes down

Over twenty years at JPMorgan, UBS, BNP Paribas and HSBC, it took me time to understand how decisions about my career were really made. Like most women, I pieced it together gradually, often looking back once a decision was already made.

When I became a Managing Director, I joined the conversations where those decisions happen. What struck me was how often the outcome depended on whether someone at the table could speak clearly and specifically about a person's work. The women who progressed weren't always the loudest or the most visible. They had made sure their case would be made when they weren't there.

For one hour on 19 November, I'll show you how to do the same.

Ā When you're not in the room

Most of the decisions about your career are made without you present. The women who are well represented in those conversations tend to have done three things:

  • They've said what they want next, clearly, to the people who decide, not just to their manager
  • They've given someone the evidence: specific results their advocate can repeat in their own words
  • They're known for something beyond their own team, so their name means something when it comes up

None of this happens by accident, and you can start on all three this month.

Shaped by what you want to know

Before planning this masterclass, I asked women across financial services a simple question: what do you want to know about how careers really work?

The Unwritten Rules Survey is open until Friday 13 November. It takes three minutes, it's anonymous, and it asks which rule you most want explained and the one question you've never felt able to ask. The most-asked rules set the running order, and I'll share the full findings live on the night, before they're published anywhere else.

TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW

In 60 minutes, you'll learn:

  • How performance and promotion decisions come together, and which conversations shape them
  • How to make sure your work is represented when you're not there to speak for it
  • Who your advocates are, and what to give them so they can argue your case
  • Promotion or pay: which to prioritise for 2027, and when to raise it
  • How to get your firm to fund your development before its budget resets
  • What women in finance told me: the survey findings, shared first with the women in the room
  • The questions you've never felt able to ask, answered live

Ā You'll leave knowing:

  • Who is likely to be speaking for you in 2027, and what they need from you
  • The two or three things to do before your next review, whenever it is
  • Which next step fits you, whether you want to work on it alone, with a structured programme, or with me

Live only. No replay.

This session won't be recorded. Some of what I'll share, I would say to a room but wouldn't put on a recording. If you want it, be there at 7.30pm.

This is for you if

  • You're good at your job, and you've started to notice that being good isn't the whole story
  • You have a review, a promotion case or a pay conversation coming up, this year or next
  • You've ever left a meeting knowing the real conversation happened somewhere else
  • You want 2027 to be a year you shaped, not one that happened to you
  • Ā
  • It isn't for you if you're looking for a vision board. This is about how careers in financial services actually work, explained by someone who has been part of those conversations.
